Amber, Raw & Polished
My absolute favorite “crystal” is Amber. I’m not sure why I’m so attracted to it but I just feel good and right when I wear it or have it around me. I guess that is the point with crystals, isn’t it? If you believe in their energies and they seem to fix any “dis-ease” in your life, their purpose is served. Amber has a long history and is not an actual gemstone or crystal.
Actually, it is solidified tree resin from extinct evergreen trees that has solidified into a fossilized resin. Basically, it is really, really old sap. Amber has been worn embellishment since the Stone Age. In Ancient Greece, it was sacred to to the God, Helios, and the ancient Greeks thought it was the juice of the setting sun. Amber’s original Greek name was Elecktron, which the word Electricity is derived from. As with any precious stone, Amber was used as a sign of wealth and status in ancient Celtic society. Quite the pedigree, huh?
Amber was thought to possess “life” force due to the insect remanents that were fossilized inside it. This stone becomes electrically charged when rubbed against wool or silk. It is also linked to the “Goddess” in some Wiccan covens. Amber is normally a warm golden brown or yellow in color and can come in red, green, and a tawny orange color. Today, Amber can be attained easily and is found in Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Poland, Romania, Russia, and South America.
Now, enough of the history lesson, let’s move on to what Amber can do for you in your “highly charged & stressful” day-to-day life. Amber has a deep and strong connection with the earth and is used as a grounding stone for higher energies. It works as a powerful healing and energizing stone.
Amber cleanses the “dis-ease” that your body feels as well as promotes wellness in your sacral and solar plexus chakras. It’s energy is protective in nature and associated with the Sun and the Element of Fire. It is linked to the Archangel’s Ariel and Jeremial. This amazing piece of tree resin is know for taking negative energy and transforming it into positive energy.
This unique ability that Amber offers helps with the overall well-being of your body, stimulates intellect and memory, develops inner trust and promotes positive mental health. It has many physical and emotional uses such as assist in restoring balance to your kidney’s, stomach, and spleen. Amber also helps support your immune system and improves your self confidence. It helps alleviate stress, re-balance the body and is an excellent natural antibiotic.
Harnessing the “power” of Amber is relatively easy. Buy yourself some polished or raw amber from a reputable gem and mineral store. You need to cleanse the negative energy from it before you use it. This can be done by placing the Amber in sun or moon light for 24 hours, bury it in your yard for a week, or smudge the stone with some burning Sage. I recommend using sun or moon light or the smudging, this is because you may forget where you buried the Amber and I seem to get the best energy charge from these methods.
Next, find a quiet space where you can lay down and not be disturbed. Place the Amber on your throat, solar plexus, naval and on each side of your pelvis. You need a good 15-20 minutes to do this, breathe in and out through your nose and concentrate on absorbing the positive energy and dispelling the negative energy. You should feel energized and less stressed afterwards but remember to cleanse your Amber after you are done. If you want continuous benefits from the Amber, wear it as jewelry to help balance your emotions.
A note of warning, Crystal Therapy is something to use as an adjunct to traditional medicine. Do not go out and chew on a piece of Amber thinking you will be cured. Consult your physician on any medical issues you may have and ask if alternative therapies could harm or help you during your treatment.
The next crystal post will be about Citrine, the “money” or “luck” stone. Until next time, Blessed Be.
